Named for the scenic US 290 highway that winds past the Collings shop and through the Texas Hill Country, our 290® is a modern day tribute to the original working man’s rock and roll guitar. A solid mahogany body and neck are complemented by two Lollar Soapbar P90 pickups for a tone that shows off the amazing harmonic range and dynamics of this often underrated configuration.

290® vs 290® S

The only difference between the 290® and 290® S are that the “S” version features a single bridge pickup with one volume and one tone knob, along with no pickup selector switch.  They otherwise share the same body size, shape, scale length, electronics, and standard appointments.

290® vs 290® DC

While both models feature the same standard appointments, the 290® is a single-cutaway body, while the 290® DC features a double cutaway.  Due to the design of the neck joint, the DC version’s neck pickup is shifted more toward the bridge than the single cutaway version.  This results in a neck pickup tone that is less bass-heavy with extra clarity compared to the non-DC version.  The standard 290® offers a fuller voice in the neck position, although both models are surprisingly dynamic and articulate.
